The Great South Bay Music Festival was this past Saturday, and Andrew and I went to watch his brother, Eric, perform. Eric and his friends are in a band called Orchyd and they were one of the first music groups to play at the festival on Saturday.
Orchyd earned their spot in the festival by competing in WEHM‘s battle of the bands contest. It began with a round of voting and then the top five bands with the most votes were able to perform in front of a panel of judges and the winner won a spot at the festival. Orchyd killed it and won the whole thing.
While Orchyd got ready to play and during their set, I walked around the area handing out free stickers for the band. It reminded me of when I used to sell Girl Scout cookies when I was younger. I started with over 100 stickers, and by the end they were all passed out. I saw one man in the crowd hold up his sticker and take photos of it with the band playing behind it. I was so happy to help out Eric and his band. While I handed out stickers, Andrew took some great photos and videos of the band which are below.

After their set, a few members of the band were interviewed by Newsday who featured them in an article the next day. You can find the article here.
You can find Orchyd’s Instagram here. You can follow it to keep up to date with where they’re playing next. If you wanted to check out their Spotify, you can find that here.
I’m so proud of Eric and the rest of the band. I’ve been able to see them grow from a small trio playing for fun a few years ago, to doubling in size and now playing at a large and popular Long Island music festival. I’ve watched them blossom into a beautiful Orchyd (haha).
